Cyberknife

What it is:

What it is:

A non-invasive, robotic radiation therapy system that delivers high-dose, precisely targeted radiation to treat tumors and other abnormalities throughout the body. Despite its name, CyberKnife is not a surgical procedure—no incisions or anesthesia are required

CyberKnife is used to treat conditions such as:

  • Brain tumors (primary or metastatic)
  • Spinal cord tumors
  • Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Epilepsy
  • Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs)
  • Parkinson’s disease and tremors
  • Cancers of the lung, liver, pancreas, prostate, kidney, and breast.

Treatment:

  • Performed on an outpatient basis, typically in 1–5 sessions lasting 30–90 minutes each
  • A robotic arm delivers radiation from thousands of angles, adapting to patient movement in real time
  • No need for anesthesia, braces, or restraints
  • Minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue
  • Recovery is often immediate, with fewer side effects than conventional radiation therapy
